In recent days, music observers have been wondering: how could it happen that the "shredded" version of Boney M's hit "Gotta go Home" (album "Oceans of Fantasy", 1979) in the interpretation of the American DJ project DUCK SOUCE under the completely schizophrenic name "Barbara Streisand" , was able to achieve such high positions in the international charts? At the same time, Frank Farian's much more interesting cover version of the inconspicuous song of the 70s German band NIGHTTRAIN is almost unknown to the current youth audience, with the exception of especially advanced music lovers. However, for us the answer is obvious: the promoters of youth music channels (MTV, VIVA and the like) simply do not put "disco retirees" in rotation. However, as we can see, a couple of samples of Boney M. were enough for today's young people to make this a hallmark of the autumn 2010 season.
From the point of view of snobs and music critics, the success of the single from DUCK SAUCE is simply nonsense. Indeed, the repeated repetition of one harmony with the voice of Farian (yes, it was he who once recorded the famous theme in the chorus "u-u-u, Gotta Go Home" in the studio) literally made a splash on all continents.
For the second week, "Barbara Streisand" has been holding the 3rd position in the British single chart, in Ireland it immediately moved from 27th place to 2nd, in Holland it also instantly became N2, entered the TOP20 of Australia and New Zealand, became N1 in Belgium... In Germany, the single will go on sale only on October 29, and, most likely, is also doomed to triumph in the local charts.
In the global ranking of WORLD SINGLES CHART, the track already occupies an honorable 25th place, and this despite the fact that in many countries the single is still being prepared for release.
It is obvious that Farian's musical schemes, discovered by him more than 30 years ago, continue to work properly. German scientists have even become interested in the phenomenon of "stickiness" of the music of the famous producer, which, in their words, "forever stuck in the brain", regardless of whether you like it or not.
A typical example is the story of the British climber Joe Simpson, who, while climbing the peak of Siula Grande in the Andes, found himself on the verge of life and death, falling into the abyss.
Being in a faint, he suddenly "heard" Boney M.'s song "Brown Girl in the Ring", which earlier, in his own words, "hated". However, it was this melody that, paradoxically, brought him back to life. The crippled climber crawled to base camp to the endless chorus of "Brown Girl in the Ring - Tra-la-la-la-la". The story of the miraculous rescue was chronicled in Simpson's biographical book "Touching the Void", which was made into a film in 2004 (the book and film, by the way, won several prestigious awards).
There were many such examples. Boney M.'s lead vocalist, Liz Mitchell, recently revealed another interesting story to the press. It happened a couple of months ago while on tour in Norway. After the concert, a young man came backstage to the artists, who said the following: “Liz, you can’t even imagine how bad it was for me. So bad that I was ready to commit suicide. But when I heard the music of Boney M., I understood that life is beautiful and my problems are nothing compared to this."
And since the melodies of the famous Caribbean quartet remain evergreen and empowering even in a moment of absolute despair, we will remind the audience how the original composition of Boney M's "Gotta Go Home" sounded, which has become a pop sensation these days.
